This one started with the intent of being a fully narrative music video, directed and treated out by Adam Zvanovec and our full team on-site. I was there shooting BTS with the plan to edit and color the final piece. After I delivered the first cut, following the storyboard Adam had pieced together, the narrative and message wasn’t really aligning with Gio or his team. They suggested to pivot the entire project into a high energy, flashy lyric video and asked me if I could take on the reshaping. I pulled from some of the visual language Trent Nicholson had already established for Gio’s album, as well as my own retro/analog-style in the design. After animating the lyrics, I shot them through a CRT and layered them over the original footage shot for the music video as well as Jake White’s Super-8 BTS footage mixed in. Gio and the rest of our crew was thrilled with the final outcome. What started as a rescue mission turned into one of my favorite visual pieces I’ve made.
